CULTIVAR gives students opportunities to engage in artistic experiences that weave and center cultural experiences that reflect their own heritage and identity. The first set of lessons, Culturally Relevant Arts Integrated Lessons, focuses on culturally relevant arts lesson plans for grade levels PK-5 and in all subject areas. The second set of lessons, “Reflejar: This is Me” lessons, focus on students’ expression of their cultural, ethnic, and linguistic identity through art.

The students learned the spanish and english translations for the song, Cielito Lindo, along with academic vocabulary used to create their own version of the chorus to the song. This prepared the students for their performance at the Mariachi Extravaganza event.
All School Arts Integration MariachiThe students learned key terms needed to create cultural connections to mariachi music and the clothing the musicians wear. The learners will demonstrate descriptive language through storytelling and express feelings and emotions verbally. Learners will create and test their hypothesis about sound and vibration.
1st Grade Arts Integration MariachiLearners will be able to create cultural connections to Día de los Muertos and explain the significance of the cultural holiday. They will utilize all linguistic domains to express their understanding of customs and traditions displayed during this event.
4th Grade 5th GradeBallet Nepantla was formed in 2017. The indigenous term nepantla means the in-between, and the ways identity evolves, being from both sides of the borderlands, Mexico and the United States. They performed for our partner school, their families, and friends.
