Get ready to experience the vibrant sounds of Mariachi music! This incredible genre is a cornerstone of Mexican culture, known for its lively melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and distinctive instrumentation. When you hear Mariachi, you'll typically hear a blend of violins, trumpets, guitars (including the smaller vihuela and the large bass-like guitarrón), all working together to create a rich and exciting sound. Mariachi music isn't just for listening; it often tells stories of love, life, and everyday experiences, and it's a staple at celebrations and important events, bringing joy and a powerful sense of tradition to audiences everywhere.
Our students attended a mariachi performance on campus where they learned about the costume, instruments, and the importance of story-telling in Mariachi music. The musician was a national award winning singer and guitarist. The featured book given to every student was Sing, Don’t Cry by Angela Dominguez.
